PROJECT:

An Post Sorting Facility / 1,600 sqm

An Post’s sorting facility in Blanchardstown serves one of the busiest regions in Dublin. The commission has involved the complete remodelling and expansion of the 25 year old facility which operated under considerable pressure of space. Consequently the new facility was delivered in phases to allow the postal service to remain ‘live’ throughout.

The building form reflects the process within the building. The sorting and distribution hall constitutes the main ‘body’ of the building with expressed steel canopies extending over the loading bays. Managerial offices, staff canteen and support facilities are grouped around the public reception hall and entrance to create a clear public interface. Flat and profiled cladding is employed to reduce the scale of the building. An Posts corporate colours are used to reinforce the modelling of the building elements.
