This development comprises of a new 2-5 storey Student Housing Facility for Budara Management Ltd with 105 bedrooms, administration offices, staff welfare facilities, and ancillary student multi function spaces totalling 3810sqm. The development was granted Planning Permission in July 2023. A small basement housing the building plant area is also proposed along with outdoor green spaces, such as the internal courtyard, entrance plaza from Stillorgan Road and from Woodbine Road. There is a provision for 6 no car parking spaces which incorporates accessible and delivery/set down spaces accessed from Woodbine Road. There is provision for 89 bicycle parking spaces; 65 long term sheltered secure spaces at the rear and 25 short term spaces beside Woodbine Road. The proposed Woodbine Student Housing is located on Stillorgan Road, between the two-storey Cranford Retail Pavilion on the West side, the 4 -5 storey Montrose Mixed Development Commercial and Residential Development on the East side, and at the corner with established residential estate at Woodbine Road.
The proposed Woodbine Student House is designed to provide modern accommodation for students from the adjacent University College Dublin to a high standard. The design articulates the urban character of the Stillorgan Road while still sympathetic to the residential nature of Woodbine Road and reduces in height towards the South as it meets the scale of residential houses on Woodbine Road. The form of the building articulates two main elements, the ground level which in the common areas is transparent to the internal courtyard beyond and the main five storey element housing the student accommodation with a modular glazing pattern. The ground level has larger full height windows relative to its larger floor to ceiling height. The “transparent ground floor”, visible through glazed walls connect the street with the internal communal areas and the courtyard garden beyond and animates the view from Woodbine Road.
